SICILY                                                                              View/print your brochure:  APRIL 2012

Sicily, is the biggest island in the Mediterranean, where the sun shines all year round and saints have so many devotees.

Rich of cultures, located between three continents, invaded over millennia by so many people, all of whom proudly made Palermo its capital. It’s full of styles and architecture ready to surprise, to enrich the imagination!

This region will not fail to impress its visitors.

In a week packed full of excitement, you will be able to enjoy stunning countryside, climb a Volcano, visit a truly magnificent capital city, and, immerse yourself in nature with guided walks of medium level.

Stromboli, a magnificent Volcanic island with Stromobolicchio, that like Sicily, broke away from the rest.

You will be given an opportunity to climb to the top of the volcano (approx 3 hours) with a licensed guide (dependent on the weather) or to remain on shore and visit the island’s three villages of San Bartolo, San Vincenzo and Ginostra. We will sail to it by private boat making the trip quicker and more enjoyable.

Palermo’s amazing cathedrals which also include Monreale one of the greatest extant examples of Norman architecture, in the world, its markets, and, baroque churches full of colour and atmosphere, all within two days packed full with energ.

As well as relaxation, and, great food, we’ll enable you to combine these exciting excursions, with another day of medium strength guided walks, in the captivating Parco Naturale dei Nebrodi held in the Apennines of Sicily a mountain range that stretches from the Tyrrhenian Sea to Mount Etna.

We will be based in the lovely small village of Brolo that with its medieval castle was the residence of Bianca Lancia, mistress and wife of Emperor Frederick II of Hohenstaufen New Roman Emperor.

Take a short ride by train to the nearby town of Patti Marina to see its ancient Patti Seminary created at the behest of the council of Trent in 1563, adjacent to St Antonio Abate Cathedral which houses the chapels of Santa Febronica and Sacrament, the marble sepulchre of Adelasia, wife of Count Roger and mother of King Roger II, who died in Patti Marina. (Prepare for an uphill walk). Interesting is also the underground church area, through a window pane believed to originate from a Norman prison.

On the sea shore, is Villa Pisani, a 1900 Liberty style villa which now houses the municipal library, or, on the opposite side of town, the Roman Villa of Patti Marina. Or just stroll along the sea front, sample local homemade ice cream, or ever better a cup of Gelo di Melone, a watermelon delight to lick your whiskers.

Included is also a half day guided excursion to the Greek Temple and Roman city of Tinder.
